October is one of Sri Lanka’s most interesting shoulder-season months. The island is lush after months of tropical rain, popular attractions are generally less crowded than during the December-to-March peak season, and travellers can often find better value on hotels and tours.<\/p>\n
But October also requires realistic planning.<\/p>\n
Sri Lanka Tourism classifies October and November as the second inter-monsoon season<\/strong>, when occasional heavy showers can affect different parts of the country and sea conditions may become rough. That does not mean you should avoid Sri Lanka in October. It simply means your itinerary should focus on destinations that remain rewarding even when the weather changes during the day.<\/p>\n For many travellers, October is better suited to ancient cities, tea country, temples, scenic train journeys and cultural sightseeing than a beach-only holiday.<\/p>\n
